Killdeer watching the waves roll in

We went out to Equalizer Lake in Loveland, Colorado this morning to photograph shorebirds. That was the secondary goal. The primary goal was to test the new firmware on the Sony 70-200mm lens. First the back story.

Monique uses the Sony A1 with the 70-200mm lens as the primary setup for her day job as a pet photographer. You can see samples of her work at SilverpawStudio.com. Recently she was having frequent issues with the camera locking up. She would have to pull the battery out to reset the camera. It reached the point she finally had to fix the issue. She goes into more detail regarding the issue that she was having on our Youtube video. After Googling everything the Internet had to offer, she downloaded the most recent firmware update and installed that. The update, version 0.06, replaced version 0.05. The new firmware update can be downloaded from the Sony website

That is what we were doing out at Equalizer Lake. The lake is actually a reservoir so over winter the water will get very low and then, usually, fill up once the snowpack in the mountains starts to melt. The water was still extremely low and the mud banks exposed by the low water are very inviting to all kinds of shorebirds. On this day we saw Avocets, Killdeers, Yellow Legs, and many others. This was in addition to ducks, geese, pelicans, and even a few Western Grebes. There was going to be ample opportunity to test the camera and lens combination.

We spent over an hour photographing the birds. Monique went through over 500 frames in that time with no problems. So the problems seemed to be solved.

If you want to help out the Cattail Chronicles crew, I have posted some affiliated links below should you want to check the specs and prices of the camera and lens. If you want more details on the actual photographs that we took that will be in a follow-up post.
